Standing out where others disappear into the masses: the new Macan T. Contemporary, dynamic and urban, with extensive standard equipment, model-specific design features and of course, typical Porsche performance. Five doors, five seats, yet incomparable, unmistakable and unstoppable. In its latest generation, the Macan is and remains the sports car of compact SUVs. Instantly, the Porsche DNA is recognisable from the sloping roof line: the ”flyline” lends the Macan its characteristic sports car contours. Different engines, same principle: the 2.0-litre inline four-cylinder turbo engine and the 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 engine efficiently produce outstanding power and torque. The 7-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) provides instantaneous and optimum gear selection in automatic mode, with rewarding and precise manual shifting for when you want to take control. While entry-level Macans can be a bit too spartan for their price, the GTS model comes with more niceties such as leather upholstery, aluminum trim, and heated front seats. Still, those seeking an SUV with a plusher cabin may find the Genesis GV70 more appealing. The Macan GTS is set up for maximum fun, with well-placed controls, good outward visibility, and a comfortable driving position. Its cargo hold isn’t as large as some of its rivals, but when has buying a Porsche ever been a rational choice? We fit six carry-on bags in the cargo bay and 16 with the rear seats folded, which should be enough for most people. Porsche’s infotainment system offers all manner of high-tech features, including standard Apple CarPlay and an optional wireless charging pad.
